Clear your desk in 10 minutes

A 10-minute reset, not a reorganizationYou don't need a system or new bins for this. It's a quick reset you can repeat any day the surface gets away from you: clear it, wipe it, and put back only what earns its place. Ten minutes, and the desk feels like yours again.A 10-minute reset, not a reorganization

1
Set a 10-minute timer A timer keeps this from turning into an afternoon project. When it goes off, you stop. You're after a usable surface, not a perfect one.
2
Sweep everything into one pile Move every loose item into a single spot — one edge of the desk, or a box on the floor. A bare surface is easier to think on than a half-cleared one. Sweep everything into one pile
3
Wipe the empty surface Now that it's bare, wipe it down. The clean surface is the reward that makes you want to keep it clear.
⚠️ The "just in case" pile is how desks refill — This is the step that makes or breaks it. If you put things back because you might need them, the clutter comes straight back. Only what you use every day returns to the surface — everything else leaves it.
4
Put back only your daily five Return just what you actually touch every day — laptop, one pen, your notebook, water, and one thing you like looking at. Five or so items. If you don't use it daily, it isn't a desk item. Put back only your daily five
5
Sort the rest by where it goes Move fast through what's left: trash, belongs-elsewhere, and one 'to handle' pile. Carry the belongs-elsewhere things out of the room on your next trip past.
6
Give the 'to handle' pile a tray One small tray holds whatever you didn't finish deciding on. It sits off to the side, not on the main surface — so the desk stays clear and nothing important gets lost. Give the 'to handle' pile a tray
