Fold a fitted sheet without the fight
It's four moves, not a wrestling matchThe fitted sheet is the one everyone balls up and shoves in the closet. The trick is tucking each elastic corner inside the next so the curved edges disappear into a straight line. Once you see it, it's the same four moves every single time.
1
Turn it inside out and hold two corners
Hold the sheet inside-out, one hand in each of two corners along the same short edge. Inside-out is what lets the corners nest instead of fighting you.
2
Fold the right corner over the left
Bring your right hand to your left and tuck that corner's pocket over the other so they sit together. The curved elastic edge starts to straighten out.
⚠️ The whole trick is corner-into-corner — Everything else is just neatening. If the corners nest — each pocket tucked inside the next — the sheet folds flat. If they don't, no amount of smoothing saves it. Get this move and you've got the sheet.
3
Tuck the bottom two corners in the same way
Walk your hands down to the other two corners and nest them into the first pair. You now hold all four corners stacked in one hand.
4
Lay it down and straighten the elastic edge
Set it on a flat surface. Run your hand along the edge so the gathered elastic forms one straight line and the sheet becomes a rough square.
5
Fold it into a rectangle
Fold in the edges to hide the elastic, then fold the square down two or three times into a tidy rectangle. Flat enough to stack — no more closet ball.
